Week 4 - First Area in Lansing - Saturday August 13, 2011

Okay so i am officially out in the field!  airplane ride wasn't super bad just way way to long from SLC to Detroit it was 3 hours but then only a twenty min flight from detroit to lansing. haha that flight was way nice. and funny thing so i got off the phone with you guys at the airport and sat down and sitting next to me is Ethan Hendricks mom. it was way way random but fun. i talked to her for a bit as we stood in line to board the plane because she was coming to Detroit with us then flying to oklahoma i think. anyways, random thought. but President and Sister Hess are way nice and they live in a super nice mission home it was cool being there with 11 other missionaries. but it was way hard as we got through secruity that seven of us went left to richmond and four of us went straight for lansing. i miss the rest of district 53 C it was way sad saying goodbye but they will all do good they are truly amazing missionaries. but so we spend the night in the mission home and had interviews with the President and talked about the mission. i guess we have just over 120 missionaries in the Lansing mission and i guess thats actually pretty low on numbers. we have been allotted 47 veichles for our mission which i thought was a lot until i realized how many missionaries we have and how spread out we are. i am currently serving in the Cadillc Area which is about 2 hours northwest of Lansing so my first thursday here was just driving and driving. haha but i love it here its like a cross between Elmo and Fairview but ten times a bigger area and ten times greener. i have never seen so many trees in my life at one time. its ridiculious.  My companion's name is Elder Rawlins he is from Tricities area of Washington. and he has been out here for just over 14 months i believe. he is way cool and way spiritual. also i guess there are a few other Alta kids out here from the grade above me. we have Elder James Callister who i knew a little bit in high school. and Elder Braedy. not sure what his first name is but we were talking and we recongize each other from around School. any ways.

so in our area we deal with a lot of less actives the total number of members in the Cadillc branch is 198 but only about 50 usually come each week. so yesterday we dropped by the Gunthners family. i haven't met them yet because they weren't home but they have a less active son named bobby lee. and the father isn't a member so we come and talk to them. then we went and saw John and Sister martin. both are members but john hates being called bro martin for some reason. he is a less active that they have been meeting with for a while. their main focus is to get him to pray because he feels its selfish to ask God for things. but after we sat down and talked for a while he is a really funny man. he was like i'm going to shock you Elder rawlins. and he gave the closing prayer for us! it was crazy so we will see where we can go from there. then we drove to the Snowdens and sister Redicck (not sure how its spelled). Brother and Sister Snowdens are Excommunitcated members but they are working really hard to be able to be rebaptized. and now its really just waiting on the mission presidents decision i guess. and Siser Redicck is sister snowdens mom and she is still a member just not as active. so we got there and the snowdens weren't home they were coming from the airport i guess sister snowden had been on a trip. so we talked to sister redicck about alma 32:43 i think it is. then we gave her a blessing because she wasn't feeling good and i annioted the oil. which i had only done once before so it was a new one. then we went to the town of Harrietta. and door knocked about two streets worth. we only had like 8 doors answer and only two said we could come back but then we left because my companion felt like something was wrong with that town. and i did to. well i was way scared for my first time  but when i'd look at the church in the area i was just creeped out. as Elder Rawlins described it. "it was like Darkness was Clinging to the town and squeezing." so we hurried out of there. but then Elder Rawlins just stopped as we were driving and was like we need to knock this house. so we jump out and run to this house and knock on the door.... no answer but we felt like we should leave a Card with our info. so we will see where that leads too..

then after that we went to Brother Tripps house. he is the former ward mission leader and current young mens president so we were coming over for Dinner. it was way way good and then they just loaded us up on lots of frozen goods. but we also taught a lesson to the recent covert sister kamie there about lettingChirst worry about Judging for he suffered for everyones sins and knows the whole sitiuation perfectly so we need to learn to forgive and forget thats key. Christ will make sure it is all fair. then we gave sister Tripps a blessing to because her back was hurting and i annointed again! lots of practice. then we headed home. now that doesn't seem like a lot to do in one day but just take a guess on how many miles we drove... and consider each appointment was about an hour or two. got your guesses? we drove just over 94 miles yesterday it was ridiculous!! haha so much car.

i think that covers all of wed, thurs, and friday. Pday is saturday. and mom want to send me that Jacket now? its rains a lot here the weather is almost more bipolar then UT! thank you i'll love you even more if you could. oh ya my address for my apartment is 105 Hobart Apt 6 Cadillac, MI 49601. thanks and love you all! oh and i'll send pictures in a little bit when i finish filling this card up. oh and i forgot to mention. since the branch is so small. me and Elder Rawlins are assistant clerks because the main clerk lives one and a half hours away from the church and we live 5 mins. its crazy and the church internet runs on dial up haha
